　　当书读五车的东方圣东说念主，遇上轰轰烈裂的西方发蒙通顺，贤哲化身发蒙想想家的“感性看守神”，推动着欧洲地面的想想自若。伏尔泰称他为“感性之友 狂热之敌”，并将孔子画像挂于书斋，旦夕朝拜；法国重农门户创举东说念主魁奈对孔子高度评价，称“一部《论语》可打倒希腊七贤”……

　　大泰西此岸的好意思利坚也相似感受到了这鼓吹方奢睿之风。从想想家爱默生视他为“玄学中的华盛顿”，到好意思国最高法院门楣上兀立起孔子雕像，再到20世纪好意思国掀翻的“子曰”激越，孔夫子的话，正越来越海外化。

　　What does Confucius look like through foreign eyes? In 1687, the image of a scholar wearing a Confucian crown and holding a ceremonial tablet appeared in the book Confucius, the Philosopher of China, compiled by missionaries. This marked Confucius’ debut in the Western world.

　　When the wise Eastern sage met the fervent wave of the Enlightenment, he became a “guardian of reason“ for Enlightenment thinkers, fueling intellectual liberation across Europe. Voltaire hailed him as “a friend of reason and an enemy of fanaticism,” keeping a portrait of Confucius in his study for daily reverence. François Quesnay, founder of the French physiocratic school, held Confucius in high esteem, claiming that “the Analects alone could outshine the Seven Sages of Greece.”

　　Across the Atlantic, the United States also felt the breeze of this Eastern wisdom. From thinker Ralph Waldo Emerson regarding him as “the Washington of philosophy,” to the statue of Confucius erected on the pediment of the U.S. Supreme Court, to the 20th-century American craze for “Confucius says,” the words of Confucius are becoming increasingly international.

　　Over two millennia ago, he was born in the East, illuminating the eternal night. More than two thousand years later, his wisdom shines across the globe, reflecting the brilliance of human civilization. The United Nations displays the moral golden rule, “Do not do to others what you don“t want to be done to you.” and the Analects have been translated into more than 30 languages. The ideas of this Eastern sage have become a shared spiritual treasure of all humanity—belonging not only to history but also to the future.
